Some history on radians

Roger Cotes is generally credited with using the concept of radians in place of using degrees of a circle. Before radians were named, they were referred to as a circular measure of a circle. Long before Cotes, there were others that were measuring angles by the length of an arc. One, Al-Kashi, was using diameter parts as a unit.

It wasn't until around 1870 that the term Radian started to be used. It still took many years until the term was commonly used in mathematics.

Radians are commonly used in branches of mathematics beyond your standard geometry. Once you start into trigonometry and calculus, radians are the standard way of measuring angles.
